In the world of careers, 'droughts' and 'floods' translate as 'divisional closure', 'company bankruptcy', 'takeover bids', 'company sale', 'redundancy', 'irrational board decisions', 'key personnel resignations' or even 'market collapse due to pandemics'.
But what do most of us do when these events overtake us?
We either pretend to ignore it, "I can't do anything about it and it wasn't my fault, so if I do nothing it might go away!" or we panic, "I don't know what to do!"
