It’s always a busy time for HR this time of year. Businesses are reflecting on the findings from Decembers annual reviews or are approaching their quarterly review time (April).

Aside from redundancies and other types of dismissals, another common matter that crops up a lot at this time of year is the hiring of new talent.

Before looking to hire for positions, I’d recommend you assess your existing workforce to determine if there is scope for promoting internal talent first. Investing in the development of employees has many benefits such as:

1. Keeping employees engaged: your best talent stay committed
2. Saving on costs: even a part time salary has a huge price tag. If there’s scope for adding to a existing employees responsibilities with a significant salary raise, then everyone’s happy.
3. Businesses improve their reputation: any company who has suffered a bad one can vouch for how damaging this is
4. Encouraging growth: I have seen very many businesses hiring too fast and too quickly without realising the rapid increase of their expenses that this would bring. Economically we experience a lot of unexpected crisis’ such as the pandemic. Irrespective of the company size, your business can take a hit during these tough times.

If your business does not have a HR function, then I would highly recommend you consider what the business might look like with a HR function. Do book a chat with me for a no obligation consultation. I’d love to speak to you about some key studies and data around the implementation of HR within a business and discuss evidence supported solutions for your company.

Make 2025 a good one.
